Week 6 Recaps

Open - 1st Round of Playoffs
(1)The Yay (66) v. (8)Bay Area Kings (52)
The playoffs begin with the #1 seeded The Yay taking on #8 Bay Area Kings. On paper this looks like a total blowout, but you can't measure a teams heart! The Kings came out fierce! Matching The Yay shot for shot in the first half. Only trailing 32-30 at the half behind 21pts from Travis and 11pts from Pellom. This game was won in the third quarter where The Yay went on a 22-6 scoring run! Led throughout the game by D'Angelo (36p 9r 1a 3s), The Yay never looked back after their run and cruised to a 66-52 victory!

(5)Rangers (63) v. (4)Primetime (76)
The 4/5 matchup had two familiar foes going up against one another as (4)Primetime took on (5)Rangers. The Rangers gave it their all as they didn't even know if they would have enough to field a team!? They had 5 players exactly, but would they have enough energy to beat Primetime? The Rangers trailed throughout the game, at halftime the game was still in doubt with Primetime holding a 35-30 advantage. The Rangers were led by Nick, who had 30p 7r 6a, and Doug's 13p 9r 3a 4s. Alas, it wasn't enough to beat Primetime! Mark had 18p 9r and Jokeem chipped in 18p 5r to bring their team a step closer to a championship!

(3)Balls Out (90) v. (6)Don't Call it Frisco (57)
A season high for points is what Balls Out had to serve up to a depleted Don't Call it Frisco squad. Balls Out had everything clicking! A season high in scoring from Kris' 21pts to Jordan's 20p & 6r. The middle quarters is where this game was decided. Balls Out outscored Don't/Frisco 50-19 (16-0 in the second quarter alone) in the second and third quarters respectively. Don't/Frisco knew they had to do something with their depleted squad so they tried to beat them from behind the arc, but it didn't work out like they planned. They were just 12-48 (25%) from long range. Clayton's 22p and Larry's 13p & 12r were not enough as Balls Out were just too dominant! Balls Out hoping that this leads them to another 'ship!

(2)Rock Center (46) v. (7)Cream/Crop (48)
We saved the best game for last! As #2 seeded Rock Center takes on the veteran #7 seed Cream of the Crop. This was a very close contest with both teams having the lead at some point in the second half. This came down to the final seconds! With Rock Center leading by two 46-44, Tye (4p 4r 5a) gets fouled, shooting two with 13.6 seconds left in regulation. He uncharacteristically misses both shots! Rock Center has been on a scoring drought since Vince's bucket with left in the quarter! Cream of the Crop calls timeout. They draw up a play where Arj (4p 3r) drives to the right and gets fouled with 5.8 left. He makes the first and misses the second shot. The rebound gets tipped to Derrick (9pts) who calmly sinks a 3 with seconds left to give Crop a 2pt lead! Instead of going for the tie Rock Center goes for the win and the attempt bounces off the rim to the left! A heartbreaking loss!

Open 6'3 Week 5

Balls Out (54) v. Bay Area Kings (64)
The Bay Area Kings put together their best game of the season! Pellom led the way scoring 12 of his 19pts in the first half and Barabin had his 14pts (all in the second half)  9rebs & 4asts! The Kings turned in their normal strong first half but normally give it up in the second! Not this time though! Barabin scored 10pts in the fourth qtr to lead the Kings to their first win of the season! Balls Out almost pulled the out the comeback behind Theo's 19p & 7r and Tenn's 13p & 6r. Although those numbers are good...they weren't good enough on this day.

The Yay (60) v. Rangers (55)
This was a battle throughout! Behind Tay (17p in the first half 22 for the game) and Hicks (12p & 7r) the Rangers were in for a game! They led 35-22 at the break! But the thing that brought them the lead, the 3pt shot, wasn't falling for them in the second half! In the first half they were 5-9 from beyond the arc but only 1-8 in the second! The Yay, after getting blitzed by the Rangers, came back in the third quarter to bring the game to a 1pt deficit! Isaiah led the way for the Yay with 19p & 6r and DeAngelo had 14p! Out scoring the Rangers 13-7 in the 4th period brought the Yay's record to a perfect 4-0!

Don't Call It Frisco (57) v. Rock Center (60)
Rock Center (2-2) and Don't Call it Frisco (2-3) go into this game looking to move up in the standings! With a win Rock Center will move into 2nd place or Don't/Frisco will even up their record. This was a pretty even matchup, going into the 4th quarter the score was tied at 46. Rock Center got 15pts from Kevin and a double-double from Daniel (13p 12r). Meanwhile, on the other side Don't Call it Frisco's scoring was spread out evenly over all their players! Leading the way was Kev with 11pts and Brandon with 10p. Don't Call it Frisco has a bye next week looking to shore up the lineup as the team gets ready for the postseason!

Cream of the Crop (64) v. Primetime (57)
The 3-1 Primetime squad takes on the 1-3 Cream of the Crop team. On paper Primetime would be the favorite, but that's why we play the games! Cream of the Crop is comprised of a number of good players. They're just not always around but when the team shows up...WATCH OUT! The combo of Eligene (11p 12r) and Jon Hall (15p 11r) are a formidable duo and match that up with Brian's (5-10 3pt) shooting this team is hard to beat! Primetime had a monster game from Mark McMahon (29p 13r) and good games from captain Corey Carlson (10p 3r) and John James Babara (13p 2s). The loss drops Primetime to 3-2. They need to win the last matchup next week in order to seal up the #2 seed!
