SFC (48) v. Bombtans (66)
The Asian Open Division of TripleDoubleSports is in our last week of the regular season and there's couple of things still to be decided! First, there was a battle for 2nd place. With first place already decided...the Bombtans and SFC had to duke it out for second!
SFC, in their first season in TDS, had just 6 players suit up for today's contest. They were in for a challenge. They came out shooting very well, making 7-10 fgs (70%) in the first quarter! Led by 17pts from Scott and 15pts & 9rebs from KJ! SFC led at the half by the slimmest of margins, 31-30!
The Bombtans were without the big, bruising Mo, but the rest of the team came out today! They played a real team game today! Their leaders all had game highs for the day: Wai 23pts, Henry 12rebs and Nick 5asts! Each knowing what role to play made it easy! Nick and Wai each scored 8pts in the fourth quarter to propel the Bombtans to victory, 66-48!

GS Threat Matrix (64) v. Knights (69)
This next matchup was a battle of 'David v. Goliath'! Although the size advantage was definitely in favor of the Knights...the teamwork was definitely on the side of the GS Threat Matrix!
The GS Threat Matrix had its usual suspects leading the way for them! Tyler's long range accuracy was something to behold! He was 9-15 3pt (60%) range for the day! That was what kept the Threat Matrix in the game! Rocco's double-double (12pts & 12rebs) didn't hurt either! Although they were scoring well, the size difference was too much! They were down at the half, 33-27!
The Knights are having a horrible season thus far. To top it off, they only had 4 players show up for the game! The 4 players that did show put in work! They were led by Ant Navarrete, who had a game high 29pts, and Jovelle's 16pts & a game high 5asts! Even the "shortest" player (6'2") Matt Szeto led the team with 15rebs!
With all of that, they had to overcome the shooting of Tyler who hit three after three in the fourth quarter! The Knights held off the Threat Matrix, 69-64! For their first victory of the season!

Goon Squad (0) v. Squadron (10)
The Goon Squad left their team Captain hanging when they didn't show up for their game versus the Squadron team! Here's to hoping they do show up for the playoffs in a couple of weeks...

🏀Division 2
#10 Putties (65) v. #7 Rock Center (61)
The playoffs have begun for our Division 2 and we are starting off with our first of two "Wildcard" games! The #10 Putties go into battle taking on our #7th seeded, Rock Center!
Rock Center, coming off a disappointing loss, came into this game rejuvenated! JC led the way early with two 3pt shots and helped put the Putties in an early hole, but fouls were troublesome! JC finished with 14pts and the team high came from Jay who had 23pts! Even though they had such a great start to the game, Rock Center was down at halftime, 35-33!
The Putties, Jason Lee had himself a game to remember! He scored a career high, 40pts! Scoring 10pts in each quarter to score his 40pts! You could tell that he put everything he had in this game, because he was exhausted every time he was taken out of the game (which wasn't very often)! He couldn't do it by himself, as hard as he tried, JLee needed an accomplice! JMac answered the call. Coming through with 15pts to help in the aide of the Putties! They would hold off Rock Center's mad dash at the end to win, 65-61! On to the next round!

#8 SC Threat Matrix (48) v. #9 Beastion (55)
Our second "Wildcard" game in the first round of our Spring Division 2 league pitts the SC Threat Matrix taking on "big brother" Beastion!
The SC Threat Matrix had a good inaugural season of TripleDoubleSports! They kind of switched up their plan of attack. Relying on the deep ball (2-14 3pt range, 14%) proved to be costly. They featured a balanced scoring attack with 3 players in double figure scoring. Led by Josh (13pts) and Chris (12pts)! Nick joined the party and came thru with a double-double (10pts & 13rebs)! They were down at the half, 26-19!
Beastion, was the 'big brother' to SC Threat Matrix because they were one team last season, played well. Just like the season before...they a ho-hum regular season and faced an opponent in the first round of the playoffs that they were evenly matched with. Beastion had their version of the "Big 3" show up for this game! Ty (14pts) and Web (12pts) took care of the scoring and London did the dirty work (10rebs, 5asts and 2blks)! They would go on to win, 55-48!

#3 Dawgs (56) v. #6 Saints (42)
Since the two "Wildcard" games have been played we will continue the day with our first round of playoffs! We begin with the the #3 seeded Dawgs taking on the #6 Saints!
The Saints in their first league together as a team brought all they could to this matchup! They just couldn't score!? Well, not enough...  Jon was the leading scorer with 13pts but nobody else could score more than 7pts!? As a team, they shot a combined 14-46 fgs (30%) and 3-12 3pt (25%) from behind the arc! The Saints were down, 26-17 at the half.
Meanwhile, the Dawgs were going about their way like this was a job! Taking every shot and every possession seriously! They shot a workmans-like, 21-44 fgs (48%) but they struggled from behind the line shooting only 2-12 3pt (17%). Led by Kiyoshi (14pts) and Dez (12pts), the Dawgsfinished off the Saints by outscoring them, 16-8, in the fourth and final quarter to win, 56-42!
Captain Mike Lim vowed that they would return next season saying, "It was fun! We'll be back!" See you then!

#1 Prodigies (83) v. #10 Putties (65)
The next matchup was between the #1 seeded and undefeated Prodigies squad taking on the #10 seeded Putties, who had dispatched #7 seed Rock Center in an upset previously in the day.
It didn't look like the Putties had their legs under them?! They relied on the deep ball to no avail! They shot more than half their total shots (26) from behind the arc! Jason Lee, the hero of game one, used up all of his magic in the first game but still managed to have a game high, 24pts. JMac also played
well, going 7-17 fgs (41%) for his 20pts! With JLee and JMac hitting for 20+, the Putties were down at the half, 46-26!
The Prodigies explosion in the first half kind of put the Putties in a hole...a deep hole! Sean Caiola led his team in: points (22), rebounds (7), assists (7) and steals (2)! A great all-around game! Arj Santos came through with 18pts. The Prodigies shot the ball extremely well for the game! Hitting on 30-56 fgs (54%)! They went on to win the game, 83-65!

#2 Swishers (63) v. #9 Beastion (45)
The second of our two "Wildcard" winners were the Beastion! Their prize in the second round was the #2 seeded Swishers!
Beastion started the game off shooting the ball badly?! They were 2-15 fgs (13%) in the first quarter! Their shooting percentage went up in the second quarter but it was still on the low side (6-20 fgs, 30%). Phil led the way for Beastion with 14pts and Gordon backed him up scoring 10pts! As you can imagine, shooting 23%, they were lucky to be only down by 16pts, 39-23!
The Swishers were ready for this matchup! They outscored Beastion in every quarter adding to their lead! Sharpshooter Dorian Sun led the Swishers with 19pts on 7-17 fgs (41%). Double-doubles by Mikey (10pts & 11rebs) and Travis Hom (11pts & 11rebs) sealed the victory for the Swishers. They shot 24-48 fgs (50%) for the game and went on to win, 63-45!

#4 Bulls (67) v. #5 SF Braves (65)
The last game of the First Round of the D2 playoffs was...you know how they say, "Save the best for last..." well we did! As the #4 seeded Bulls took on #5 seeded SF Braves!
The SF Braves came into this game on a high note. Winning their previous game by 24pts! Evan came up big with 22pts shooting 5-11 3pt (45%) range along with 11rebs! The shot a mere 10-30 fgs (33%) in the first half! They were trailing going into the second half, 38-26!
The Bulls, meanwhile, were cruising though three quarters! Everything was going their way. Wai led the Bulls in scoring with 24pts on 10-16 fgs (63%) shooting! After three quarters the Bulls led, 55-41! They appeared to be heading towards an easy victory...key word being "appeared".
Because the SF Braves, led by 7 fourth quarter points by Brandon Mamaradlo, weren't done! They started the fourth down by 14pts and little by little chipped away at the lead that at one point looked insurmountable! The Bulls lead was carved down to 2pts, but Jayson Dizon sealed the game with 2 free throws to hold on, 67-65!

The Asian Open league is coming to its conclusion and these two teams are headed in different directions when Squadron take on the Knights!
The Knights have had a rough season, to say the least. They are the only team left winless with just one regular season game left to play after this one. They began the game well, shooting 10-22 fgs (45%) from the field in the first half. Jovelle was again the leading scorer with 15pts. They trailed, however, 39-28!
The Squadron had the ball moving around like a hot potato! Steve (8asts) and Travis (5asts) were the ringleaders of the day! Tyler led all scorers with 26pts, on 8-17 fgs (47%) shooting. Squadron outscored the Knights, 31-23 in the second half! Led by Mikey's quick hands (3stls)! Squadron won comfortably, 68-53!

SF Braves (64) v. Beastion (40)
We have come to the last regular season games of the season! Our last week starts off with a matchup between the SF Braves and Beastion!
Beastion had a pretty tough day shooting the ball in the first half. They actually shot the ball better from 3pt range (38%) than they did from 2pt range (36%)! They were down from the beginning, 17-9 after the first quarter. They received nice games from Tyler (17pts) and from London (11pts & 8rebs). Beastion was down by 7pts, 31-24, at the half.
Tone and the SF Braves started the game with only 4 players (their 5th player showed up a few minutes into the game). Brandon Mamaradlo led his team with 11 first half points and dished out 5 assists! David (the player that showed up late) turned out to be their leading scorer with 21pts and MJ had a solid game with a double-double (15p 11r). They put the game out of reach with a 15-0 4th quarter! The Braves went on to win the game, 64-40!

Putties (61) v. Saints (66)
The most competitive game of the day turned out to be the Putties (1-4) versus the Saints (2-3)!
The Putties opened the game very well but as fast of a start they had...they quickly turned cold as ice! After a 4-6 fgs start, the Putties went 0-6 fgs the rest of the quarter and found themselves down, 19-10, after one. Matt Szeto continued to play well with a double-double (12p 10r) and JMac led his team in scoring with 15pts! After the first quarter, they played evenly and at the half were down, 33-24!
The Saints had a nine point lead at the half but they lost a chunk of it in the third (22-17)...five points to be exact! Jon led the way offensively with a game high 21pts and Dave chipped in 10pts!
The Saints fought off a fierce comeback attempt by the Putties, including 3-3pters in a row by Antonio! They cut the Saints lead to 3pts but that as close as they would get! As the Saints held on to win, 66-61!

Dawgs (66) v. Prodigies (79)
Two of the top teams in Division 2 battle it out this Sunday...when the undefeated Prodigies (4-0) take on the second place Dawgs!
The Dawgs emptied out the kennel for this game! This was the first time they had a full squad! Dez (16pts) and Tyler Petroni (25pts) led the way offensively. After time away from the team, Tyler came back with avengance! His game high 25pts came on 10-16 fgs (63%). Yet, they were still down 44-32!
The Prodigies, not wanting to lose their undefeated status, came out on fire! Led by Barry Lee (22pts) and Sean Caiola (20pts), the Prodigies showed why they are unbeaten! They came out of the gates strong posting 44pts in the first half! The Dawgs were game but the Prodigies just had too much! The Prodigies won the game, 79-66!

Swishers (73) v. Rock Center (56)
The Swishers (4-1) are trying to keep pace with the Prodigies and standing in their way this week was a young and scrappy, Rock Center (2-3) team!
Rock Center were up for this game! They were playing this game without their captain, Cris Pineda, but that didn't stop the others from having good games! Jay (22pts) and JC (14pts) led the way for Rock Center, who were tied after the first quarter (15-15). The scoring slow down in the second and Rock Center was trailing at the half, 27-23!
Travis Hom, who had 6pts at halftime, exploded in the third! He scored 17pts in the quarter on 6-7 fgs (86%) shooting! That outburst pushed the Swishers lead to, 55-38! They went on to win the fourth quarter (19-17) and the game, 73-56!

Bulls (51) v. Prodigies (81)
The Prodigies (5-0) look to complete an undefeated regular season but standing in their way are the Bulls (3-2)!
The Bulls came out shooting from distance in the first half! They were 8-13 3pt (62%), but were only 3-11 2pt (27%) field goal shooting at halftime! They were led by Jayson Dizon's 15pts and John Mayuga's 11pts. Although they were hot from downtown they still trailed at the half, 43-32!
The Prodigies, playing their second game of the day, picked up right where they left off! The combination of Barry (23pts) and Sean (25pts) again carried the Prodigies! They shot the ball good in the first game (51%), but they shot even better this game (54%)! These "old" guys can still play! They finish off their regular season with an undefeated record (6-0)! Now, its on to the playoff round after beating the Bulls, 81-51!

🏀Week 5 recaps
Asian Open
Boogie 2.0 (69) v. Squadron (58)
Another week of #TripleDoubleSports is in the books and the cream is rising to the top! We have the undefeated Boogie 2.0 team taking on Squadron!
Squadron was missing a few pieces but they were game. Newcomer, Aki lead the way for Squadron with 15 of his game high 30pts in the first half but his teammates, usually reliable scorers, were a bit off. Squadron shot it at a 26% clip (7-27 fgs) and trailed at the half, 27-22!
Boogie 2.0 came up big in the third quarter, or should I say Rebo came up big! He scored 15pts in the third and Joe Scott scored 9 of his 18pts in the fourth! They kept Squadron at arms length for the entire game. They shot a blistering 64% from the field (16-25 fgs) in the second half to close out the Squadron, 69-58!

Boogie 2.0 (58) v. Knights (53)
On the heels of their victory, the Boogie 2.0 team faces off with the Knights and again puts their undefeated status to a test!
The Knights had only 5 players for the entire game...but they were the right 5 players to have! They took on the Boogie squad who in all circumstances were at full strength! The Boogie team shot the ball well from 2pt (22-37 fgs 59%) but poorly from long distance (4-19 3pt 21%)! Which was the opposite for the Knights (2pt 7-15 fgs; 8-25 3pt).
Boogie 2.0 led at the half, 33-25! Behind a game high 17pts from Rebo and a double-double from Edwin (15p 12r)!
The Knights made a late run in the final period behind a pair of 13pt performances from Adonis (score keeper extraordinaire) and Jovelle. They had their chance! It shows the importance of free throws! They were 13-20 fts (65%) for the game! They cut the lead to 3pts but that was as close as they would've gotten! Boogie wins their second game of the day, 58-53!

Bombtans (53) v. GS Threat Matrix (64)
This next game could remind one of an old story of the Battle of David and Goliath! When the Bombtans take on GS Threat Matrix...but which is which?
The Bombtans were almost at full strength (minus PG Nick Wong), but they thought that they had enough to win! Wai (14pts) and John (16pts) were the teams leading scorers and Mo chipped in his double-double with 12pts & 11rebs! They led at the half, 36-32!
For GS Threat Matrix, they shot the ball well for 4 quarters! With the third quarter being their best! In that quarter, they were 9-14 fgs (64%)! That third quarter they outscored the Bombtans, 22-9! Tyler hit 3-3pt shots and Justin scored 9pts in that quarter!
The Bombtans only had 17pts in the whole second half of the game on 8-25 fgs (32%)! The Matrix took full advantage and won the game in an upset, 64-53!

Goon Squad (57) v. SFC (80)
In the last matchup of the day for our Asian Open, pits the 1-2 Goon Squad taking on the 2-2 SFC team!
The Goon Squad came into this game without two of their big guns (Sami and Justin Tuason). Evan (21pts) and Carlo (15pts) tried to carry the team. They shot the ball well in the first half, 9-19 fgs (47%), but were trailing 39-32 at the half!
The SFC team was on fire from the jump! They are a team that goes 11 deep (more than any other team). They are gelling at the right point in the season! Led by JT, with a game high 25pts, and Tyler's 14pts, SFC was  unstoppable! They shot 30-57 fgs (53%) including 8-18 3pt (44%)! Scoring at least 19pts in each of the 4 quarters! They outscored the Goon Squad 41-25 in the second half! To go on to win comfortably, 80-57!

🏀Division 2
We had some excitement in our Division 2! Starting with the Putties battling a young Rock Center team!
The Putties were ready for this game! They had a full squad (minus JMac). They were hoping the long ball would work for them, but they only shot 4-14 3pt (29%) and 1-11 3pts (9%) in the second half! Jason Lee led the way for the Putties with 18pts and Matt Szeto showed up today and gave his squad 15 hard nosed points. They were down going into the second half, 27-22!
Rock Center played well! They did all the little things. They were quicker to all the loose balls and most importantly they hit their free throws (16-21 fts - 76%). Jay was the games high scorer with 24pts including 10-12 fts! Darius came through for Rock Center with a double-double, 11pts & 11rebs! The free throw line was really good to Rock Center, every time the Putties got close, Rock Center would end up on the line! They closed out the game, where else, the free throw line! Rock Center would go on to win a close game, 54-46!

Putties (43) v. Beastion (39)
The Putties go into this, their second game of the day, versus Beastion. Both teams limped into this contest with one 'W' between the two of them!
Beastion came out stumbling out off the gates. Only scoring 5pt in the first quarter on 2-12 fgs (17%)! Phil was their leading scorer with 12pts and Webb came through with a double-double (11p 12r)! Though the Beastion did double their output in the second quarter they were still down, 23-15 at the half!
The Putties let their foot off the accelerator in the third quarter! They had their lead cut down to 3pts, 29-26! Then came Jason Lee to the rescue! He scored a game high, 19pts, 8 of which came in the final quarter! The Putties shot 5-19 fgs (26%) but made up for their poor field goal shooting by going, 9-11 fts (82%)! They held onto the lead to win the game, 43-39!

Saints (45) v. Prodigies (66)
Next up, came the 2-2 Saints versus the undefeated 3-0 Prodigies (who were without captain Torrent, Barry, Ryan and Arj), but they did had good games from two of their guards.
The Saints really brought out their competitive juices! They were on the floor for every loose ball and every rebound! They out rebounded the Prodigies, 35-26. Their leading scorer, David, had a game high 21pts & 10rebs and Paul had a nice game with 11pts & 11rebs! They were still down at the half, 26-21!
The Prodigies were led by Sean Caiola with a team high 18pts and Quinton with 17pts! Even though they were without 4 of their regulars the "other guys" came through in the clutch! The Prodigies came out in the second half with guns out! They shot 16-29 fgs (55%) in the second half! The Prodigies cruised to a victory, 66-45!

Bulls (77) v. Swishers (80)
An exciting couple of games start for the Bulls! First they are matched up versus the defending champions, Swishers!
The Bulls weren't hitting their shots with the regularity that they're used to. They shot 10-34 fgs (29%) including 2-11 (18%) from downtown yet they were only trailing by 7pts, 31-24 at the half. Angelo (14pts) and Wai (22p 12r) led the way for the Bulls!
The Swishers quickly let their 7pt halftime lead go! They were outscored 21-11, and trailed by 3pts going into the final period. The Swishers weren't going to let the detour their chance at victory! Mikey's double-double (18p 10r) and Dorian's game high 41pts (also a season high for TDS) were major factors in the comeback! Down by 3pts, Dorian pulled up from the left wing and drilled a game tying 3! He made 8-3pters in the game! With sudden death staring them right in the face Dorian caught the ball right wing, pump faked and drove in made the shot and one! Wow! The final score was 80-77!

SC Threat Matrix (95) v. Bulls (96)
After a long double overtime game the Bulls were right back at it again versus the SC Threat Matrix!
SC Threat Matrix were in for a high scoring game! They went 8 men deep and they needed every single one of them! Nick Knight had a game high 10rebs to go along with his 20pts and his brother Chris scored 15pts and dished out 4asts! They were down, 44-40 at the half!
The Bulls doubled their lead to 8pts after the third period (66-58)! Behind Wai's 20pts and Chris 19pts on 7-12 fgs (58%)! The Bulls were tired! They let their lead that was as high as 11pts slip right through their fingers!
With Black's perfect 5-5 3pt, they brought the game into double OT but down by 1pt, 94-93 Wai went to the line and made the first of two to tie the game. He missed the second but hustled to get the rebound and got fouled again! This time making both! With the score, 96-94 Chris took the ball in, pump faked to get the defender in the air and was fouled! He made the first, and with sudden death OT looking them right in the face he missed the second got the rebound and passed it out for the game winning shot but the pass was broken up and stolen by Wai! The Bulls win in a thriller, 96-95!

Dawgs (73) v. SF Braves (56)
The former champions of D2, the Dawgs, bring their 3-1 record into this matchup versus the SF Braves (2-2)!
The SF Braves were shorthanded this day with just 4 players showing up to play! They were game though. They played their hearts out! James (12pts) led the Braves out to an 18-18 1st quarter, but the second quarter was a different story. Greg (22pts) didn't find his stroke until the second half but it was too late. They were down at the half, 37-26!
The Dawgs had to find the right combination to defeat the Braves, but once they did there was no turning back! Joe made his first 5-3pters and finished with 21pts and Kiyoshi had a good game finishing with, 16pts! Myke played big with 14rebs and dominated the block!
The Dawgs and Braves played evenly in the 1st and 3rd quarters but the 2nd and 4th the Dawgs dominated! They won the game, 73-56!
