Week 7 Recaps

Week 7 Recaps
D1
Rangers (55) v. Eagles (58)
Triple Double Sports is at it again with another week of Asian League Basketball! We start the week with the Rangers going up against the Eagles, who are coming off their first loss of the season. The game was an up and down, back and forth affair with the Rangers winning the first and third quarters and the Eagles winning the second and fourth! At halftime, the Eagles held on to a slight lead, 25-23. The Rangers did all they could do versus the Eagles. Mike Hicks lead the way with 15pts and Taylor Tak contributed 14pts, but the Eagles, smarting over their first loss, would not let them go down in this one! Jovelle came up big with a double-double, scoring 25pts and pulling down 12rebs! Quez and Jovelle scored 8pts each in the deciding quarter as the Eagles held on to win, 58-55!

Hapanese (71) v. Go Get It (66)
This game, on paper, looked like it was a mismatch as the undefeated Go Get It team faced the 1-4 Hapanese squad...but there's a reason we play the games! With big games from both Sunny (31pts) and Moe (22pts) you would think that this would be a cakewalk but Hapanese had other ideas! Behind Ryan Sera (25pts) and a bounce back game out of Tye (23pts) the upstart Hapanese squad went to work in the second half! Hapanese outscored Go Get It 41-34 in a tight and exciting game! Although Hapanese secured an 8pt lead with less than a minute to go back to back 3s by Sunny (GGI) brought them back in! Hapanese held on to win the game, 71-66!

Bomb Squad (63) v. Beastion (53)
Next up is a matchup of teams moving in opposite directions, with Bomb Squad versus Beastion! At the half, the score was tied at 26 apiece! With Chris Knight (21pts) leading the way for Beastion the game was tight...until the 3rd quarter began! That's when the Bomb Squad outscored Beastion 22-11 in the period. Lead by brothers Kyle (22pts) and Matty Wong (16pts), Bomb Squad shot 8-13fgs  in the decisive quarter! Nick Wong was also there but did not play but he did reiterate that who ever plays them in the playoffs better watch out! They're gelling at the right moment! Bomb Squad wins, 63-53!

Squadron (49) v. CCU Ambassadors (52)
We have a match between two teams hovering over the .500 mark in Squadron (2-3) versus CCU Ambassadors (2-2)! These two evenly matched teams played what you'd expect...an evenly matched game! At the half, Squadron trailed 28-26, but the 3rd quarter brought a different, more aggressive team to the forefront! A 15-9 3rd quarter gave Squadron the lead, 41-37! Dorian (12pts) and Steve (11pts) lead the way for Squadron! They were holding onto the lead, 49-47, until there was 40secs left in the game! That's when CCU's Jeremy ran along the baseline and popped open for a three and hit it and with time running out Chris slipped a screen and made a layup giving CCU a 3pt lead that they would hold on to, 52-49!

Boogie Events (66) v. Tru (50)
The final game of a long and exciting day had the undefeated Boogie Events team versus the boys from Tru! Three of the four undefeated teams in both leagues lost on this day...would the team from Boogie lose too? After an evenly played first quarter (tied at 12) the Boogie team exploded in the second quarter (23-11) to go to the half up 35-23! Ant H. (16pts) and Tim Wabla (17pts) led the way for Tru. But it wasn't enough as Ant (21pts) and Prabe (12pts) were too much for Tru to handle! The pure size of Boogie couldn't be matched by the smaller Tru squad. Boogie Events remained the final undefeated team in TDS with a 66-50 victory!

Putties (63) v. SF Flight (74)
We begin with the Putties versus SF Flight. Both teams looking to go 4-1 and position themselves for the postseason! The first half was a track meet with Szeto and Jmac doesn't doing it on one end versus Drew striping the 3s on the other! The score was 42-38 Putties with Jmac leading his team in scoring (19pts) and Szeto, like a beast, with a double-double (18p 10r)! The third quarter though was the complete opposite! The Putties could only muster 3pts in the quarter! While the SF Flight outscored them 17-3! Drew (36pts) continued his hot shooting day into the second half where he was joined by Arj (22p 11r). SF Flight went on to win the game, 74-63!

Knights (42) v. GPC (51)
Next up was, the boys from Knights Basketball taking on GPC! Knights were missing some key players and only suited up 4 for the game...advantage GPC! GPC took the early lead and held onto it at the half, 26-17! The Knights put in some work by Dorian (19pts) and Andrew (20p 8r) but ultimately it wasn't enough! As GPC took advantage of their one-man advantage! Their shooting also improved in the second half of the game as they shot 10-21 (48%)! Steven's 18pts and Tommy's double-double (14p 10r) were just enough to say goodnight to the Knights! GPC wins 51-42!

The Strokers (48) v. Gators (47)
The finish of the day happened at the end of The Strokers and Gators game! This game was a knock out-drag out battle from start to finish! The Strokers led at the half, 19-16, in a stout defensive game! The second quarter was a rough one, The Strokers managed only 6pts on 3-11 shooting but were able to hold the Gators to a mere 4pts on 2-9 from the field! The second half the shots began to fall as the Gators were able to score 33pts in final two quarters. A pair of 11pt games from Dennis and Stephen paced the Gators who were undefeated coming into this game. After Jordan put in a rebound the Gators took the lead with 3.3 secs left in the game! With time winding down the ball was inbounded to Ray, he took two dribbles and rose for the shot and was fouled with less than a second on the clock! He was on the line to win the game or send it to OT! He missed the first, then the second but the rebound was taking by Giorgio and one motion put back the missed free throw and the horn sounded! The Strokers win by 1!

The Fam (64) v. Guap (53)
A pair of teams with identical records (2-2) face each other in this pivotal game as The Fam takes on Guap! Guap trailed in the game  since the jumpball and couldn't quite find their stride until the fourth and final period! Guap had scored 30pts thru 3 quarters but then exploded in the fourth outscoring The Fam 23-9! It wasn't enough as The Fam had a 20pt quarter themselves (3rd quarter 20-9). With CQ taking care of the inside work (13p 10r) and Jun taking care of the outside (4-6 3pt range), The Fam was well covered! Guap came up big in the fourth but too little, too late! The Fam went on to be victorious, 64-53!

Dawgs (53) v. Aces of Angels (54)
Another game where the final undefeated team, Dawgs, took on a winless Aces of Angels squad! The Dawgs looked to be in control of the game throughout. Leading 21-17 at the half. And after an evenly played third quarter (16 apiece) the Dawgs were cruising to a victory! But somebody didn't tell the Aces squad that...as the shot 8-15 (53.3%) 3pt range in the second half! The Dawgs led by 2pts with co-captain Dez on the line with a chance to add to the lead but he missed both free throws, but the rebound was loose and picked up by the dawgs and again had a chance to up there lead but this time Mark missed a pair! So Aces still had a chance to at least tie! Jason (18p 10r) had the ball and was dribbling on the right wing after a few dribbles Dez went for a steal and knocked the ball loose but it was picked up by Jason in the corner, he rose and was fouled shooting a three! He calmly sank all three of his free throws! With 1.1 left on the clock, the Dawgs drew up a play but the alley oop was rejected by...you guessed it, Jason! They held onto win a nail biter, 54-53!
