WEEK 5 recaps!

Week 5
Open League
Splash City (58) v. United Nations (74)
The fifth week of TripleDoubleSports begins with defending champs United Nations taking on Splash City! The game started on a sour note as Splash City only shot 8-27 (29.6%) fgs from the field while the United Nations shot the ball at a 52% clip (13-25 fgs)! Splash City was down at the half, 37-22. Wilson (SC) finished the day with 20pts and Fernando chipped in with 15pts. United Nations forward Jason Rockwell scored 15pts, all in the first half, and a late arriving Toby Merchant scored his 20pts! The second half was more competitive as each team scored 36pts. Playing to a tied score, although competitive, was not enough to catch United Nations! They won, 74-58!

Fly Squad (77) v. Big Game Ballers (82)
In this matchup, the undefeated Big Game Ballers look to continue their perfect season versus an upstart Fly Squad! On paper this was a mismatch of size and strength but as they say there's a reason we play the games!  The Fly Squad shot an unbelievable 6-7 3pt range in the first quarter to go up 24-23 at the end of one! Mike (27pts) and Wai (24pts) combined to score 51pts and were the main reasons why Fly Squad kept in the game! The Big Game Ballers kept their cool throughout the game and with the scoring of DeAngelo (23pts) and Isaiah (20pts) held off the Fly Squad, 82-77!

Rock Center (73) v. Boogie (37)
The finale of the day brought us Rock Center versus Team Boogie! The first quarter was quite competitive with Rock Center holding a 15-14 lead! In the second quarter, though, it was a whole different ballgame. Team Boogie only mustered 4pts in the quarter shooting a horrendous 2-15 fgs (13%)! At the half it was Rock Center leading 33-18! A huge defensive force by Brett C. was all that Rock Center would need! Along with the 9 blocks, he also had 16pts, 10rebs and 5asts! He really knew how to fill up a stat sheet! I expect that Team Boogie will put up a better effort next week after suffering their worst loss of the season! Rock Center wins, 73-37!

Spartans (61) v. Hapanese (64)
The Division 1 starts up with Hapanese taking on the undefeated, first place Spartans squad! Hapanese was going into battle with just enough players (5) to play but they were up for the challenge! Ryan Sera (23pts) and Tye (15p 5a) were ready for the confrontation. At the half, Hapanese were leading 33-30. The game was pretty tight with each team shooting well (H 12-24fgs; S 12-25fgs). The Spartans weren't going down without a fight! Wai, who got his normal double-double (20p 11r), and Captain Errol (17pts) were not giving up hope but they really just ran out of time! Hapanese won a tightly played game, 64-61!

SF Flight (67) v. Beastion (58)
Division 2 starts with a battle between SF Flight versus Beastion! This game began like it was an old school shootout! It was uncharacteristic of Beastion take this many 3pt shots but if it's what it takes to win they'd do it! They shot 6-13 from 3pt range and SF Flight shot it at a 60% clip (9-15 3pt). Beastion trailed at the half, 38-32. Phil (16pts) and Matt (12pts) led the way in scoring and London hauled down a game high 10rebs!
