Week 6 recaps!

Week 6 Recaps
Open Division
Boogie Events (67) v. Hapanese (63)
Another week of Tripledouble is in the books and we start this week off with a good one! Boogie Events versus a new and improved Hapanese squad! Hapanese jumped out ahead of Boogie, 22-12 after the 1st quarter, behind 3-3pters by Tommy! It was a full team effort by Hapanese. They held the lead throughout the game, with 14pts from Bradley and 10pts from John. The Boogie team would not be outdone! A pair of double-doubles from Ant (18p 11r) and Prabe (14p 10r) forced the game to, not one but two overtime sessions! Free throws were the factor in this game with Boogie outscoring Hapanese 20-9 from the charity stripe! They went on to win, 67-63 2ot!

CCU Ambassadors (52) v. Beastion (45)
Another great game was giving to us by CCU Ambassadors versus Beastion! After the first half, CCU was all over Beastion 31-17! They were on there way to a blowout, but Beastion had other ideas. They outscored CCU 18-6 in the third period to torn the blowout into a nail biter! Nick and Chris both had 11pts to lead Beastion to a comeback. CCU would not be outdone! Without leading scorer, Jeremy Lee, the CCU Ambassadors found their scoring from other players that stepped up in his absence! Derek (19p 8r) and Willie (14pts) were more than up for the challenge! Holding a small advantage, CCU held on to win, 52-45!

Squadron (58) v. Rangers (52)
Yet another in line of great games was this one that had Squadron up against the Rangers! After a horrendous 3pt shooting display in the first half (2-12), it was Squadron's defense that stood out! As they lead 29-25 at the half. The Rangers were poised to make this a game in the third. Behind Hicks' strong third period, the Rangers took the lead away from Squadron by 2, 41-39! Travis Hom would not let Squadron die! He scored 9 of his 18pts in the fourth and deciding quarter and Steven Tom sealed the victory with some clutch free throws to win, 58-52!

Go Get It (47) v. Eagles (37)
Two undefeated teams went into battle with the loser suffering their first defeat, as the Eagles squad took on the Go Get It team! Alec and Jovelle (Eagles) had their hands full all day trying to hold down Mo (Go Get It)! Normally, two is better than one, but when your one is named Mo, it's a different story! Alec spent most of the game guarding Mo in the post. He (8p 11r) and Jovelle (9p 8r) switched on and off all game long but Mo was not to be denied! He scored 21pts and pulled down a game high 13rebs! Go Get It held a 5pt lead going into the fourth. The Eagles were missing Quez, who would have made a big difference in the final score! If they meet again in the playoffs the Eagles would have a better chance with a full squad! This time, however, goes to Go Get It! 47-37!

Tru (60) v. Bomb Squad (66)
The final game of the Open Asian division brought Tru versus the Bomb Squad in a very competitive game! The first half was tight with Tru taking the lead at the break by a single point, 33-32! With JC (17pts) and Ant H. (15pts) leading the way for Tru! But the second half was all the Wong boys! 32 of the 34pts scored in the second half were scored by the brothers Wong! Nick (29pts), Kyle (21pts) and Matty (5pts) were too much for Tru to handle on this day! Nick, scored 20 of his game high 29pts in the second half, he would not let the Bomb Squad lose this game. The final score, Bomb Squad 66 Tru 60!

Knights Basketball (37) v. Gators (49)
In the first matchup for Division Two the undefeated Gators faced the guys from Knights Basketball. Like their brethren from Hapanese, they too improved their team immensely! They just need time to gel! They did hold a 21-14 lead at the half thanks to a forgettable 2nd quarter from the Gators! A 0-10 fgs and a total of 1pt in the quarter to give the Knights the lead at the break. Drew, of the Knights, lead the way with yet another double-double (13p 12r). The Gators owned the second half! Outscoring the Knights 35-16 over the last two quarters! Mikey (12pts) and Dennis (11pts) paced the comeback for the Gators as they won convincingly, 49-37!

Dawgs (46) v. The Fam (28)
Bad shooting or good defense? That was the headline for the undefeated Dawgs versus the upstart The Fam! It was an extremely low scoring affair with the Dawgs leading by 2pts, 23-21 after the third period! The Fam had a horrible day. Making 9-43 shots for a 21% clip, but surprisingly they were still in the game! The Dawgs lit up the scoreboard in the 4th period. Doubling their output for the game (23pts in the first three quarters- 23pts in the 4th quarter alone)! Bradley (14pts) and Dez (8p 10r) were the stars of the game! As the Dawgs stayed without a loss...46-28!

Next up, we have the Putties versus The Strokers trying to even up their record. The Strokers were without some key members due to Chinese New Year and other various reasons...and it showed! They were down at the half 39-14! Jason (12p 5r) and newcomer Malcolm (15pts) were the only bright spots. Meanwhile, the Putties had all cylinders going! KC (16pts) and Clif (15p 8r) led the way for the Putties (3-1)! They didn't let up on the gas pedal scoring a season high 76pts! The final score, 76-37!

A very tight game is what we had up next as SF Flight took on the Aces of Angels! SF Flight jumped out to a 23-10 first quarter lead only to relinquish that lead and go into the half tied at 30 apiece! The Aces, for the first time this season, had a bench (albeit one player)! The rest the Aces got showed in their play. John had a game high 24pts on 6-3pters and Jason played well too (12p 10r 5s). SF Flight was up for the challenge tho! As a team they shot it well from the charity stripe, 18-19 (95%)! That was the deciding stat for the game! GPC retook the advantage after the third quarter, 26-25! Behind a double-double from Tommy Doan (15p 13r) and 10pts from Brian T. Going into the final period Guap's Adonis was feeling good about what he was doing! The two-time 3pt shooting champion showed that he could still do it! Scoring more than half of his teams points! Week 3 Recaps - D2
The Fam (49) v. Knights Basketball (46)
The first of five contests in our D2 has The Fam taking on Knights Basketball! The Fam had something going for them that they don't usually have...a full squad! 12 to be exact! The scoring for The Fam was as you would guess, balanced (13-11-12-13pts). Two guys new to the team were the leading scorers! Pao De Leon led the team with 15pts and Chris Quadra (CQ) lead the team with 8rebs! For the Knights, Tommy led the way with 19pts but the lack of a secondary scorer really hurt! The Fam was able to walk away with a 49-46 victory!

The Strokers (67) v. Aces of Angeles (54)
The Strokers are looking to get back on top of the hill as they take on another new team this season, Aces of Angels! The first half was close...The Strokers held a 1pt lead at the intermission. Behind solid games put up by newcomer Ronald (19p 6r) and veteran Justin (15p 5r 3a). The Aces were without two of their players that would have made up the difference between the two teams! Jason K. did all he could mustering up a double-double (33p 11r) in his TDS debut. The Strokers went on to win the game by a score of 67-54!

A strong quarter from Maynard Raymundo 9 of his 13pts in the 3rd period alone! But another Szeto, Clif, brought the Putties back scoring 11pts in the final quarter! The game was tight in the first half with the score 30-29 in favor of PayProTec at the break. The third quarter was where Squadron made a statement. Shutting down the high powered PayProTec squad! Out scoring them 12-7 to take the lead 41-37 going into the final quarter...but PayProTec proving why they are champs came right back in the fourth as they finished the game on an 18-5 run! TripleDoubleSports would like to welcome CCU Ambassadors to our league! Their first test would be Tru, who just came off a drubbing last week can they do it again this week? The new guys came out strong! Jer scored a game high 19pts on 8-14 shooting from the field and Chris, the long range marksman hit 4-5 from distance for his 12pts! Tru didn't have the juice this week! They shot 5-26 (19%) 3pt range. Mike J scored 14p and Rodel, a TDS veteran, scored 13pts in his return to the league. Without the three ball and a couple of people M.I.A., Tru didn't have enough to beat the newcomers! CCU wins in their debut, 58-46!

They were knotted at 20 apiece after the first but they were out scored from then on! Tommy (14p 5r) and Andrew (10p 10r) put forth a valiant effort but it was all for naught! Did the Eagles cry about their misfortune? Nope! Their scoring was evenly spread out amongst the team with newcomer, Lovelle Vance posted a double-double with 12pts & 10rebs! Week 5 recaps.

Week 5 - Open Asian Recaps

Hapanese (58) v. Bomb Squad (48)
Week 5 of the Asian Open League is in effect! We start off with Hapanese taking on Bomb Squad. Bomb Squad was without their leading scorer, Nick Wong, so the burden of bringing home a "W" payed solely on the shoulders of his brother, Kyle Wong! Kyle did all he could (26p 5r) but the firepower was lacking! On the other hand, Hapanese Had balanced scoring throughout. Led by a double-double from Andrew (14p 15r) and a solid performance by Ryan (12p 5a). Hapanese led Bomb Squad from the jump! Leading 33-16 at the half. Bomb Squad outscored them by 8 in the fourth to make the score respectable. Hapanese was in control for their first win of the season, 58-48!

Go Get It (59) v. Rangers (43)
The next matchup brings Go Get It (formerly known as PayProTec) versus the Rangers! The Rangers came out and were bring the "D" in the first half. Limiting the high scoring Go Get It team to 19 1st half points...they brought the defense but forgot to bring the offense! The Rangers only scored 17pts in the first half! Go Get It finally found their offensive game after the break, scoring 40pts in the second half to bust the game wide open! Jason Rockwell (17p 8r) and a
double-double from Moe (13p 10r) were enough to put the Rangers away! Go Get It wins in style, 59-43!

Squadron (48) v. Eagles (55)
Next on the docket, is a game that has Squadron versus the undefeated Eagles squad! One could say that Squadron had an "off day" shooting from beyond the arc shooting a horrible 2-17 (12%)! That was their major dysfunction. Other than that they shot the ball well (16-33 48% on 2pt shots). Jordan W. (15pts) and Steve T. (13pts) shot the ball well but the rest of the team didn't come along for the ride! The same could be said about the Eagles. They too shot the ball well from 2pt range (19-36 53%) but shot only 3-18 3pt (17%) which was enough for the Eagles to win the game, 55-48!

Boogie Events (52) v. CCU (48)
This game started off with a mixup with the start time of the game, so the teams started off the game 4 on 4! With Boogie missing all of their bigs the game was tight! Boogie held on to a 30-20 lead at the half behind 15pts from Sam Allen and 11pts from Adonis! CCU, on the other hand, had this game for the taking of they only hit their free throws! As a team, they were 12-24 (50%) from the charity stripe! Jeremy did what he could, scoring 21pts to lead all scorers! The Boogie Events team was able to hold onto the lead, with a scare from CCU, to stay among the undefeated, 52-48!

Gators (51) v. Aces of Angels (45)
Our Division 2 brought the action as in our first matchup with the Dawgs looking to remain undefeated versus our newcomer Aces of Angels looking for their first win of the season! The first quarter was a defensive struggle with Aces of Angels taking a 7-5 advantage! The second was a different story! The Gators jumped all over the Aces outscoring them 20-10, to take a 25-17 lead into the half! For the short handed Aces, Jason was the top scorer with a game high 24pts and Matt was a beast on the boards pulling down 15rebs! Guap (46) v. Dawgs (54)
The last game of the day pitted the undefeated Dawgs versus the youngsters of Guap! The kids of Guap were giving the Dawgs all they could handle in the first half! They were matching them shot for shot! At the half the score was all tied up 28 all! Adonis (12p 5r) and TK (14p 6r) were doing it for Guap in the 1st and 2nd halves respectively! The Dawgs, however, had a little bit more in their tanks to finish the game. The Dawgs went on a 26-18 run in the second half to take the game! Ryan Sera (14p 6r) and Bradley (13p 5r) did just enough to beat the upstart Guap team, 54-46!
